Die cutting stands out

Printing isn’t all about squares. Die cutting products, such as a writing pad, a book, a notebook or a note pad are more striking and accessible if they are shaped to fit your product or corporate identity. What about a rubber duck for a sanitary shop or a bone for a dog food manufacturer? Just to mention a few options.

What's possible and what's impossible?

I'd like to explain what's possible and what's impossible. Rounding corners is easiest. It can be difficult or even impossible to remove products in one piece from the die cutting machine when your product has sharp corners. Also, creating die cutting products with a lot of sheets is impossible. It's simply too much for the die cutting machine. A product cannot have too many sheets and must have a fluent shape.

Is it valuable?

You have to invest in a die, which will be custom-made for you. After production, the die will be saved for you, so you won’t have pay again for it when re-ordering. The smaller the edition, the more the price of the die will weigh in the total costs. At Leoprinting, we have a catalogue with hundreds of standard shapes from which you can choose. You don’t have to buy a die, which will save you money, and your product will have a striking shape. You can download an overview over here.

Rounded corners

Products with rounded corners are much cheaper, since there is no need to use a die cutting machine. The corners of the product will be rounded after printing. Originally, the technique was used to prevent a product from dog-earing and to extend the life span, but it can also create a nice effect when producing a writing pad in the shape of a laptop or tablet. Or what about a bathing sponge to accompany the rubber duck mentioned earlier? ;-).

Cutting

Another low-budget solution: cutting diagonally instead of die cutting. You are less bound to the number of sheets, which is restricted in die cutting.

Blindpreeg Blind debossing

Debossing

Although it’s not completely in line with the subject of this blog, we won’t make a big a big deal about it. Debossing is pressing a pattern, logo or text into a product. The design can be either pressed inside or outside. With this finish, your product will stand out more and draw attention to a certain part. Your products will have an exclusive look.

Creative

In short, the possibilities are endless, but they can be restricted in the execution because of the technical side of the production. Do you want to stand out? Contact Leoprinting and let us advise you, no strings attached.
